May 2020 Newsletter
On Friday May 29th, we had our membership meeting via a Zoom room. We had 25 members in attendance. We were privileged to have 4 fantastic guest speakers on the call.
Josh Berman
Economic Development South - [email protected]
Josh highlighted how his group helped to open a grocery store in the town of Clariton, 10 miles outside the city of Pittsburgh. This was accomplished with funding from a Neighborhood Partnership Program (NPP) grant. They have helped to build this grocery store over the past 5 years to be a stable in the community that did not have a grocery store within 5 miles and was over an hour bus ride away. Josh was fantastic in how he outlined the goals of the NPP, how they secured the funding and how this helped that city provide “FRESH” food to its residents.

Cheri wrapped up our fantastic membership meeting on going over all of the requirements of having an additional food distribution site in Harrison Township. What is needed regarding staff, volunteers, acceptance of the food, storage and ultimately the distribution of the food to the residents.
We want to sincerely thank all of our speakers who took the time to be with us during our meeting.
Misty Chybrzynski gave our membership an update on how the food distribution program went. As many of you know, when the Highlands School District was forced to shut down, a need immediately arose on getting quality, nutritious meals to those students who relied on what they would have normally received at the school.
Well, Alleghey Family network and Highlands partnership network, along with many other groups in our partnership stepped up to create a food distribution network.
Misty gave an awesome overview of who was involved with those efforts and how the program went.
In all, 15,000 meals were distributed to our Highlands students in a 12 week program. This is just an incredible accomplishment and we want to thank everyone who helped out.
